Collins Woman was Long Time Resident

Collins, April 30--Funeral services for the late Mrs. Henry Johnson, 65, of Collins were held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Church of Christ with Rev. C. E. Lookingbill of Nevada in charge of the services.
A double quartet composed of Mrs. Kenneth Tomlinson, Mrs. Geo. Graham, Mrs. Geo. Holmes, Mrs. L. D. Holland, J. G. Dingles, Chas. Cooper, Tom Huntrods and J. R. Witmer sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," "Does Jesus Care," "Just When I Need Him Most," and "Till We Meet Again."
The pall bearers were Warren Kitchel, E. A. McCord, N. H. Brinkman, L. D. Holland, R. D. McCord and O. H. Gearhart. The floral offerings were many and very beautiful, mutely testifying to the esteem in which the deceased was held in this community. The flowers were cared for at the church and cemetery by Mrs. Ora Hanson and Mrs. O. N. Serbein.
Mrs. Johnson, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Halterman, was born near Runnels, Warren county, Iowa September 1, 1880, coming to this community at the age of eleven, growing to womanhood on the Halterman homestead, 2 and one half miles south of Collins, and it was there that she was married to Henry Johnson of Collins in 1900 and to this union one daughter, Ila Mae, was born. She was preceded in death by her father, two sisters and one brother. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, daughter, Mrs. Earl Leonard, aged mother, one sister, Mrs. Belle Gilley, four brothers, Henry and Melvin Halterman of Nevada, John Halterman of Shipley and Dennis Halterman of Collins as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Johnson was known and loved in this community, having since childhood been an active member of the Church of Christ at this place and the O. E. S.
The greater part of her life was spent in this community and although she has been in poor health for the last few years, she never gave up and was always cheerful and hopeful, always planning for the future. Her sudden death came as a shock to the community and she will be greatly missed by all.
Friends and relatives from a distance attending the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Dan Higgins, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johnson and Mrs. Glen Ellis of Omaha; Mr and Mrs. Peterson of Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Halterman, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Halterman, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Haltermen, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Halterman, Lester and Raymond Halterman of Nevada, Mr. and Mrs. John Halterman and son of Shipley, Mr. Anson Hall, Mrs. Al Bechly and son Ellis of Des Moines.
