Mrs. Hunter, 94, formerly of Charlotte, passed away peacefully July 31, 2009, at her home in Marietta, Georgia. Born on August 27, 1914, she was the last living child of seven children born to Atha and Ada Jenkins of Nashville, North Carolina. She moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, during the Depression and, in 1941, married Blake Carlyle Hunter, who passed away in January, 1980. Irma and Blake owned and operated Hunter Floral Company in downtown Charlotte for 39 years.
Survivors include her son, Wayne, and daughter, Elaine, both of Marietta, Georgia, stepson Blake Hunter of Sugarloaf Key, Florida, stepdaughter Mary Ann Hunter Demos of New York City, granddaughter Daina Shaw, and three great grandchildren, Justin, Kasey and Ryan Shaw, all of Roswell, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery in Nashville, North Carolina, on Thursday, August 6, 2009.
