John Henry Stone,66, of Poulsbo, Wash. passed away of lung cancer on March 3, 2012. He was under the loving care of Hospice of Kitsap County. John was born in Seattle on July 25, 1945 to Henry W. and Elma "Billie" Stone. He attended Ballard High School in the good old '60's. John served in the Army for 2 years, 1965 to 1967, which included one year in Vietnam. He earned the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

From the time he was about 5 years old, he went salmon fishing and crabbing with his dad, and that became a lifelong venture for him. He won numerous salmon derby's throughout the Puget Sound area. He is listed in the State book of records for catching the largest Petrale Sole (7lbs., 9oz.) on June 11, 1980. His best fishing buddies Bob Coale, Jim Miller, and Dave Toon will always be in our hearts. John was "The Fishing Man".

John had a great respect and love for nature and all it's creatures, he loved his cat Cassie the most. He is survived by his sister Sue (Stone) Poag, and her husband John. At his request there will be no services. He will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery in Ballard. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Kitsap County.
