John Meeks Straight was the youngest child of Peter and Elizabeth Bayles Straight. He was born, raised and died on his father's homestead, which was originally in Monongalia County VA and finally in Marion County WV. He secured a marriage bond with Emillia "Millie" Robinson, on 17 MAR 1845, in Harrison County VA.

Their children were: Newton J., who married Maria Jane Stewart; Mary Elizabeth, who married Edgar Ice; Helen Virginia, who married Alpheus Newton Amos on 14 APR 1878 in Marion County WV; Clara Belle, who married Rev. Harrison Smith; and William J, who died on 19 FEB 1856.

John Meeks Straight acquired land on Straight's Run, which branches north, off Ft. Hill Road beyond the family homestead, if you are driving toward Fairview. These parcels appear on an 1886 map of Fairmont District, as reprinted in "A History of Marion County West Virginia 1985", published by the Marion County Historical Society, Inc., Fairmont WV.

John M. Straight was fined $0.75 for his absence from militia exercises in 1846, as recorded 25 OCT 1847.
John Meeks Straight was the youngest child of Peter and Elizabeth Bayles Straight.
