A. H. Hildebrand’s cremated remains were never taken after his death and are still available at the Oregon State Hospital to be claimed by anyone who is related. According to his death certificate A. H. was born in Milwaukee, Wisconisn. His father was said to be Joseph Hildebrand. Nothing more is known of A. H.’s birth family. Some records said he was single all his life and others reported that he was widowed. Hospital records did not specify what his given name was. At OSH he just went by A. H.

At some point in his life he was a carpenter. In 1918 he was living in Portland, Oregon. On 4/5/1918 he was admitted to the Oregon State Hospital, a residential facility in Salem, Oregon for the treatment of people with mental illness. He was listed among the patients at the state hospital on the census of 1920. After being a patient at the institution for 4 1/2 years he died there on 8/17/1922. The cause of death was cerebral arteriosclerosis. He was 81 years old.
