Clayton "Jim" Miller, 87, of Atchison, KS passed away on Monday, March 12, 2012 at the Atchison Senior Village, Atchison, KS.
Clayton "Jim" Miller was born on February 5, 1925 in Conway Springs, Kansas, the son of Clayton C. and Ruby (Schonover) Miller.
Jim attended Conway Springs High School before joining the US Coast Guard and serving during World War II. Jim owned and operated the former Jim's Hardware for twenty one years in Atchison. He then worked for Atchison Leather for eleven years and the water department for the City of Atchison for 17 years. He was a reserve police officer for 22 years, and volunteer ambulance driver. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, the V.F.W. Post #1175, and the American Legion Post #6, both in Atchison, KS. He was a Boy Scout Leader, and enjoyed fishing.
He was married to Lucile Townsend on January 1, 1944 she preceded him in death on January 4, 1996.
He was later married to Jessie Marie Aversman on October 24, 2001. She survives of the home, additional survivors include three sons; Jim (Linda) Miller, Atchison, KS, Bob (Pat) Miller, Atchison, KS, and David Miller, Atchison, KS, two daughters; Kathy (Luke) Conner, Salts Springs, FL, and Sue (Leonard) Rush, Severance, KS, three step sons; Rod (Tohnya) Aversman, Scott (Karla) Aversman, and Gary (Charlene) Aversman, all of Atchison, KS, a step daughter; Carolyn (Ray) Simmers, Paradise Lake, KS, ten grandchildren, and thirty one great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Severance, KS. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Kendall Wood Hospice or the Trinity Lutheran School Grant Fund and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
