Cora Ellen Hill Akers, 96, of Christiansburg, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2012.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Willie Lawrence Akers; son, J.W. Akers; brother, J.W. Hill; and sister, Lillie Lester.

She is survived by her three granddaughters, Kristie and her husband, Mitch Jearls, of Roanoke, Lee-Ellen and her husband, Chad Cox, of Christiansburg, and Ashlyn Clark, of Surprise, Ariz.; great-grandchildren, Chandler Jearls, Connor Jearls, Bryce Cox, Kade Akers, Kenadee Clark, Kendrick Clark, and Kayson Clark; brother, W.H. Hill; and other extended family and numerous friends.

Cora devoted her life to caring for her family and friends. She was a wonderful gardener and cook.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at The Christiansburg Church of Christ with Mr. Dennis Curd officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.

The family extends a very special thank you to the members of the Christiansburg Church of Christ and her friend, Miriam Hylton, for the many beautiful cards that brightened her days since she left Christiansburg and to the third floor and rehab staff of Friendship Health and Rehab for their smiles, hugs and special care of the last few years.
