Maria graduated from the University of West Florida with a bachelor's degree in finance. She was a branch manager and loan officer for Vanguard Bank and was active in community, social and professional organizations.
Maria is survived by her husband of 2 years, Jason Mikel; parents, Barbour and Marie Flewellen of Mary Esther, Fla.; brother, Randolph Harrison and his partner, Charlotte Pryor, of Scarborough, Maine; uncle, Claude Swecker of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and cousins, Mitchell, Christopher, Steven and Timothy Swecker and their families. Maria is also survived by her father-in-law, Tommy Mikel of Destin; mother-in-law, Pam Whalen of Dade City, Fla.; and sister-in-law, Aimee Mikel of Raleigh, N.C.
A memorial graveside service will be held Friday, April 23, 2004, at 3 p.m. in Maplewood Cemetery in Charlottesville, with the Rev. Harry Kennon officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Maria's name are suggested to a favorite charity. Hill and Wood Funeral Home, Charlottesville, is in charge of the arrangements.
