The son of Barney and Ruth Seeley Aker, Dean was born June 14, 1929 in Dayton, WA. He graduated from high school in Dayton, WA in 1947 and was active in basketball, baseball and track, lettering in all 3. He and Beverly Kenney were married May 27, 1950 in Dayton, WA. Dean spent 37 years with JC Penney, starting in Dayton, Washington September 1952. He was transferred to Walla Walla, WA in 1954 as a sales clerk, promoted to Assistant Manager in 1956. In 1959 he was transferred to The Dalles as Assistant Manager. Dean was named Manager of his first store in 1964 in Silverton, OR. In 1968 he was promoted to store Manager in McMinnville, OR where he remained for 21 years until retiring on July 1, 1989. Dean was active in The Downtown Retail Merchant Association and was Chairman 5 years. After retiring he volunteered for McMinnville Senior Center and Meals on Wheels. He was a life member of BPOE #1283 for over 40 years.
Dean enjoyed golfing, playing pool and most card games and Linfield football. The family said "Our dad was a very caring, loving and special man, but he didn't hesitate to let us know he was "the Boss". He will be missed."

He is survived by two sons, Darel Aker of Grand Ronde; Kenne Aker of Kennewick, Wash.; two daughters, Nikki Cooper of Bend and Kim Hopkes of Tillamook; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Beverly in 2007 and brother Virgil Aker and a sister Lyleth Hinchcliff.
