Edgar A. "Ed" Lambing, 69, of Alverton, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 23, 2002, in Frick Hospital, Mount Pleasant. Ed was born in Alverton, East Huntingdon Township on Sept. 10, 1932, a son of the late Alva Lloyd and Jessie May Gartley Lambing. Ed married the former Betty L. Greenawalt on June 11, 1955. Ed was a lifelong resident of Alverton and a retired millwright assistant from US Steel's Homestead Works where he was employed for over 20 years. He was affiliated with the Alverton United Methodist Church and a graduate of East Huntingdon High School with the Class of 1951. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Ed served as a corporal in the U.S. Army and was decorated with the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense, United Nations and Korean Service medals. Ed is survived by his loving family; his wife of 46 years, Betty L. Greenawalt Lambing; his two sons, Edward A. Lambing and wife Jodi of Alverton and Stephen L. Lambing and wife Sue of Mount Pleasant; his five grandchildren, Zack, Jamie, Cory, Lyssa, and Maddison Lambing; his two sisters, Twila Hatcher of Greencastle and Phyllis Sherbondy and husband Bill of Laurelville; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by seven sisters, Ruth Cornelius, Beryl Strandberg, Marian Auld, Alvarene Hill, Jean Muir, Vivian Hernley and Kathleen Craig. There will be no viewing. A memorial service will be held for family and friends on Sunday, Jan. 27, at 1 p.m. in the Alverton United Methodist Church, with Pastor D. Keith Solomon officiating.
