Father Donald Wagener was a Priest of the Rockford, Illinois diocese. He was an excellent example of the Catholic Priesthood. He attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Wahlert High School, both in Dubuque, Iowa.

Father Wagener earned degrees in Sociology - a B.A. from Loras College in Dubuque, an M.A. from the University of Wyoming in Laramie, and a Ph.D. from Iowa State University in Ames. Prior to studying for the Priesthood, he taught sociology at Northeast Iowa Community College, Peosta, Iowa.

Father Wagener loved the Catholic Church. He had kept a Crucifix underneath his pillow since childhood, he was buried with the Crucifix.
