Celerino Sánchez-Pérez was a Major League baseball third baseman known primarily as an excellent fielder. He was a star player in the Mexican League from 1964 to 1971, primarily with the Mexico Tigers, before joining the New York Yankees organization in 1972. He spent a few months with the Syracuse Chiefs before joining the Yankees in June, 1972. He was the Yankees regular third baseman for the rest of that year. In 1973, the Yankees' acquired star third baseman Graig Nettles and Sánchez was relegated to a backup role. While he was an excellent player, 1973 was Sánchez' final year in the Major Leagues. He had one homerun, 31 RBI's and a batting average of .242.

Sánchez had been a star in Mexico during the 1960s. In 1966, he won the Triple Crown in the Mexican League, hitting .448 for the season. The Yankees saw potential in him and traded to get him in 1971. After returning to Mexico in 1974, he would spend the rest of the decade in the Mexican League (except for 1978, when he didn't play at all) to round out his career.

Tragically, Sánchez was killed in a horrific car accident in 1992.

Celerino Sánchez was elected to the Salón de la Fama del Beisbol Profesional de México in 1994 (Baseball Hall of fame - Mexico).
