Paul William Rabenhorst, age 71, of Madison, died peacefully at home on Thursday, 10 Jan 2002. He was born on 10 Nov 1930 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, the son of Henry and Clara Rabenhorst. On 27 June 1959 he married Ellen Busse in Sparta, Wisconsin.

He graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School in 1949 and received his bachelors degree in zoology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1953, returning in 1955 for a teaching degree. For 38 years he taught science and biology, the first seven in Sparta and Manitowoc, and the last 31 in Madison at Schenk Junior High and LaFollette Senior High School. He was a member of the Madison Teachers Inc bargaining team, and served many years as building representative for the union at LaFollette High School.

He retired in 1993 and enjoyed the years remaining in travel, cooking and home improvement. He especially enjoyed playing sheepshead for more than 30 years with a card group of fellow teachers. Both before and after his retirement, Paul gave generously ot his time to volunteering. His religious faith was very important to him and he served his church teaching Sunday school, as financial secretary and ushering. Since retirement he was an active member of the Madison Area Retired Educators, with the Madison chapter of AARP. and delivered Meals-on-Wheels weekly for Independent Living. Paul is survived his wife, Ellen, and two sons Paul Timothy of Madison, and Jesse of Midland, Michigan.
