"Well Known Oil Man and Farmer Dies - Ambrose H Sloan, Born and Always Lived at Sloandale, Just North of the City - Ambrose H Sloan, a life long resident of this vicinity, died at the family home in Sloandale, north of the city, at 5:40 o'clock Tuesday morning. Mr Sloan underwent two serious operations at the City hospital last April, and partially recovered his health. About September 1, complications developed, and he was taken to St Vincent's hospital in Erie, where he received treatments for six weeks. Upon returning home, hope was held out for his ultimate recovery until Thanksgiving, when he began to fail and all that medical skill could do was unavailing. He bore his suffering with patience and fortitude until the end. The deceased was the son of the late Patrick K Sloan and Mary H Sloan and was born August 28, 1874. He was engaged in the oil business and was successful as a driller and operator. He was also interested in farming, owning and operating the Sloan heirs' farm which had been in the family for four generations. Mr Sloan was a man of noble character and high ideals. He was kind and generous, just in his dealings with his fellow men and forgetful of self in rendering service to others. The deceased is survived by his mother, Mrs Mary H Sloan, and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs G W Cotter of Ellwood City, Mrs W E Luce of Titusville, Emma and Frank of Sloandale. He was a member of St Titus' church. Funeral services will be held at St Stephen's church in Sloandale Friday morning at 9 o'clock. Interment will be in St Stephen's cemetery."
