ISRAEL G. WARFIELD DEAD
He Was One Of The Leading Men Of Montgomery County.
[Special Dispatch to the Baltimore Sun.]
Rockville, Md., Feb. 27.—Israel G. Warfield, a leading citizen of Montgomery county, died this afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Vernon H. Dyson, at Laytonsville, aged 74 years. He had not been in robust health for some time and about a week ago contracted pneumonia, which was the immediate cause of death. He leaves three sons and two daughters, as follows: Dr. Robert C. Warfield, of Rockville; E.G. Warfield, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Dr. Israel G. Warfield, of Gaithersburg; Mrs. Francis C. Webb, of Washington, and Mrs. Vernon H. Dyson.
Mr. Warfield was born in Howard county, but removed to Montgomery with his parents when but 6 years of age. He engaged in farming in early manhood and continued in that business with success until the death of his wife, who was a Miss Griffith, several years ago, when he retired from active work and had since made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Dyson.
He never held public office, but was several times nominated by the Republicans for important positions, and on each occasion was complimented by a handsome Democratic vote in addition to receiving the united support of his own party. Mr. Warfield was a gentlemen of fine character and enjoyed in an unusual degree the confidence and esteem of a wide circle of friends. He was a relative of Gov. Edwin Warfield.
The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at Laytonsville.
