Winnifred/Winnaford was the third child of William Shields and Winnifred Curl. She married first Arthur Mann in Clark Co., IL. They traveled to Missouri, Iowa (1851 to 1861), then California where Arthur died in 1862. She was the mother of six children. She married Thomas Thompson in Butte Co., CA, in 1865. By 1880 she had remarried to a Mr. Taylor, still living in Butte Co., CA. In the 1900 federal census she is listed as a home owner in Cottage Grove, Lane, OR. In 1913 she died at her daughter's home in Stockton, San Joaquin, CA. She is buried in Lot 26, Space 3 of the Shields Cemetery in Cottage Grove, Oregon.
