Mary Christine Tittel, daughter of John and Mary Margaret (Herman) Heil was was born Nov. 15, 1900, in Barton County, KS and departed this life on Nov. 3, 1989 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. Her age was 88 years, 11 months, and 18 days.
She married William Tittel in 1921 and they made their home in or near Russell, KS. There were 5 children born to this union, one of whom died in infancy. As a child, she was baptized in the Lutheran faith and was a life-long member, joining St. John Lutheran Church of Russell in 1944. She was active in the Lutheran Women's Circles and helped to prepare countless meals for church functions. As a charter member of the Russell VFW Ladies Auxiliary, she served as Veterans' Hospital Chairman for 25 years. during this time she was also a member of the Fossil Creek Home Demonstration Unit. After the death of her husband in 1974 and due to her failing health, she moved to the Green Meadows Nursing in Wichita that same year. Mary had currently been a resident of Homestead Health Center in Wichita, KS.
To treasure and cherish her memory are her son, Ralph Tittel of Salina, KS; and her daughters: Verdie Peddycord, Greeley, CO; Doris Miller, Oberlin, KS; Ruth Pickering, Wichita, KS; her brothers: Paul Heil, Mitchell, NE; Julius Heil, Colorado Springs, CO; Leon Heil, Hastings, NE; Leroy and Sheldon Heil, both of Scottsbluff, NE; her sistes: Lydia Hoffman of Bridgeport, NE; Emma Albaugh and Elsie Williamson, both of Scottsbluff, NE; and Martha Teal of Clearwater, FL; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral Nov. 6, 1989 at St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Kerr officiating. Burial at the church cemetery. Cline-Pickens Funeral Home in charge.
