March 29, 1920 - Russell Reformer
Death of Henry Strecker

Our community was shocked Wednesday to learn of the sudden death of one of her respected citizens, Henry Strecker, who fell dead from apoplexy while working on the residence property in South Russell, which he was remodeling with a view of making it his home. His little grandson, who was with him, went into the house and found him lying on the floor and thinking he had laid down to sleep attempted to awaken him but being unable to do so, ran home to his mother, Mrs. Rudolph Frank, stated that "Grandpa was asleep in the building and he couldn't wake him up." Mrs. Frank went to the house where she found her father dead.

Henry Strecker was born in Russia August 10, 1863, and came to America in the year 1877, locating in Russell where he farmed extensively on land just east of the city. On January 18, 1885, he was united in marriage to Miss Julia Karst; and to them were born seven children. They are: Mrs. Carrie Brack, of this city; Ferdinand Strecker, deceased; Julian Strecker, Russell; Herman Strecker, Bazine; Mrs. Gracie Dumler, Russell, Mrs. Amelia Schmidt, Ellis; and Bertha Strecker, Russell. Other relatives who survive him are: Jacob, Peter J. August and Ben F. Strecker, brothers; and Mrs. Amelia Becker and Mrs. Pauline Morgenstern, sisters; and nine grandchildren.

Mr. Strecker was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran St. John's Church, and funeral services were held from the church Friday afternoon, March 25, conducted by Revs. Podszus and Wm Harder, former pastors. Interment was made in the Lutheran Cemetery with G. J. Deines in charge with the following friends of the family acting as pall bearers: Henry Milberger, August Reinhardt, Peter Boxberger, Cal Anschutz, Peter Steinle and Wm. Morgenstern.

The sorrowing family have the sympathy of the entire community in their sudden bereavement.
