"Miss Emma E Sloan, 80, of Titusville, RD 2, died at 12:50 pm Wednesday following a lingering illness. She was born at Sloandale, near Titusville, on Nov 14, 1888, a daughter of Patrick K and Mary Hart Sloan. She was the last of her immediate family. Miss Sloan was a graduate of Edinboro Normal School in 1909 and taught in Oil Creek Township and Akron, Ohio, for more than 40 years. Following her retirement from teaching, she became a licensed practical nurse and worked at Titusville Hospital for more than 15 years. Her great-grandfather established St Stephen's Church on Spring Creek Road, a church which still stands. He came to Lancaster, Pa, in 1798, from Ireland, and later moved to Crawford County, where he bought a section from the Holland Land Company and built the church. Miss Sloan is survived by several nieces and nephews and numerous cousins. Two sisters, D'Anna Sloan Luce and Ellen Sloan Cotter, died previously, as did a brother, Frank P Sloan, and six other brothers and sisters. Friends may call at the Raymond W Arnold Funeral Home...Requiem high mass will be celebrated at 10 am Friday in St Titus Church, with Rev William D Smith, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in St Stephen's Cemetery."
