Elizabeth Dee Kyle Reynolds was born June 1st, 1919 to William Crawford and Mary Clementine Kyle in Garwood, Texas. Her Dad was a farmer, a carpenter and a Primitive Baptist Preacher. Her Mom had a full time job raising their seven children. Elizabeth was the oldest, followed by Rachel, Pearl, William C. Jr., Mary Clementine (Tiny), Dorothy and Harvey. As was typical of the times, they moved around a lot. They eventually ended up outside Austin, Texas, where Elizabeth graduated from Austin High School and went to work for Walter Tips.
She met Coleman C. Reynolds and they were married December 16th, 1939. Shortly afterward, Coley went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. where he worked for 38 years. Elizabeth was a stay at home Mom, completely occupied with raising their five children, Trudy, Randall, Rodney, Doran and Tammy. After getting all her children through high school, into college or out on their own, Elizabeth went back to work. She was very proud of her time spent working at the University Interscholastic League.
In addition to her five children, two sons-in-law and two daughters-in-law she is survived by eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Elizabeth was a dedicated and active member of the Primitive Baptist Church. Anyone that ever knew her knew how devoted she was to her church and how strong her faith was.
There are many things her children can recall but all will agree that she performed nothing short of a miracle raising five children on a very limited budget. They grew up never knowing they were poor. They all still like beans and cornbread and remember running out to catch the school bus in warm clothes, fresh off the ironing board.
Elizabeth passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 7, 2012 after spending a full day with all her "kids".
What a beautiful example of God's plan; and the circle of life. She welcomed each of her children into this world and gave them all the love she had. They knew they were not alone as they began their lives - for she was there. It's only fitting that she passes from her life knowing she is not alone. Her children were able to return a portion of the first gift that she gave them by expressing their love and gratitude as she moved back into God's hands.
Funeral services were held at Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with Elder Dickie Halbgewachs of Oak Hill Primitive Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
