Born in Frankfurt/Main, Germany to Hugo Heinrich Krachefels and Franziska Krachefels. Changed her name from Lina to Lana in 1952 when she became a United States citizen.

Served as a nurse during World War II. Member of the Nuernberg Trial Commission until 1949, she continued to serve the U.S. Army in both France and Germany. Awarded some of the highest civilian personnel awards. Married to Harvey A Walker, Sergeant Major (Ret.) and former POW on December 5, 1949, in Dachau, Germany.

Preceded in death by a half brother, who died during the war on a torpedo boat in the German Navy.
