Early Sunday morning Joyce slipped her earthly bonds and went to be with her eternal Father. She was loved and cared for by her daughter, Andrea Potter and son Ogden John Olmstead III, who lived with her and by her daughter and son in-law Janet and Wayne Osborne, all of Rocky Mount, N.C.
Joyce graduated from Pembroke High School in 1943 with a class of 23. She pursued a career in Savannah at the Southeastern Shipbuilding Corporation and worked for many years in the Finance Office at Fort Stewart. Joyce was an avid gardener and remained so throughout her life, a wonderful cook and loved to entertain family and friends at their home in Ormond Beach, Florida.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Ogden John Olmstead Jr. of Hinesville, Ga., a brother, Speir Downs, and sisters, Miriam Richard and Jackie Rowell and also husband Maj. Robert C. White, Ret.
Joyce is survived, and will be greatly missed, by her three children, son in-law, stepson James White of Grants, N.M., grandchildren Richard Potter of Daytona Beach, Fla., Alexandrea DeLapa of Orlando, Fla., a sister, Gloria Carter of Lanier, Ga., brother and sister in law, Gene and Margie White of Findley, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. today at Flanders Morrison Funeral Home with interment to follow at Lower Black Creek Cemetery.
