In 1861 he and his parents and six siblings lived on a farm in the Tecumseh (now New Tecumseh) area in Simcoe County in what was then called Canada West, now Ontario.

In 1871 he and his mother and five siblings--all but John and Thomas--lived on a farm in Egremont Township (since 2000 part of Southgate Township), Grey County, ON.

In 1900 he and his wife and their seven children lived on a farm they owned, with a mortgage, in Norton Township, Walsh County, ND.

In 1910 he and Sarah and their five youngest children lived on a farm they owned, mortgage free, in the Glasgow School District in Valley County, MT. Florence worked as a clerk in the courthouse, and Lydia as a clerk for a coal merchant.

In 1920 he lived with his daughter Maggie, her husband, and their four children in a house they owned, mortgage free, between 338 and 346 Second Avenue North in Glasgow, MT. His son-in-law worked as a storekeeper, with a grocery store.
