Erastus Scranton Doud was born on 29 Jul 1849 in Madison, New Haven, Connecticut, the son of Charles Hamilton and Mary Roxanna Scranton Doud. The family relocated to Scranton, PA and he was educated in the public schools of Scranton, the State Model School of Trenton, NJ and matriculated in Lafayette College in 1867. He was associated with the Hazleton (PA) National Bank, the Lehigh Traction Co., and was president of the construction company that built the third rail line between Hazleton and Wilkes-Barre. Returning to Scranton, he was secretary of the Nay Aug Lumber Company. He married Ella Augusta Chase on 23 Apr 1873 in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

"ERASTUS SCRANTON DOUD. The death of Erastus Scranton Doud, a well known resident of northeastern Pennsylvania, occurred yesterday morning at 5 o'clock at his home in Clarks Green. He was seventy years of age. Mr. Doud was born in Madison. Conn, July 2. 1849, the son of Charles H., and Mary Scranton Doud, and became, a resident of Scranton in October. 1852. He began his business career In Scranton in the First National bank of this city. In August. I877 he accented the cashiershlp of the Hazleton National Bank. Hazleton, Pa., holding this position until 1891.

On April 23, 1873 he married Ella Augusta Chase, daughter of Joseph and Louise Field Chase. For fourteen years Mr. Doud acted as secretary of the Lehigh Traction Co. Hazleton. Returning to Scranton in 1905 and from then up to the time of his death had been actively engaged in auditing and public accounting.

He leaves the following children: Joseph C. of Wilkes-Barre; Walter S., of Worcester. Mass.; E. R. Doud, Philadelphia; Harold Doud, Scranton; Mabel Doud. at home; Mrs. F. H. Leisenring, Dorrancetown. and Ruth Doud, of York. Pa. The funeral will be held from the residence tomorrow morning at ten o'clock. Burial in Dunmore cemetery." Laurence Field Doud was omitted from his children.

Although his gravestone indicated his death in 1918, the date of 1919 is correct.
