He arrived at Boston on July 27, 1660 in the same ship with Whalley & Goffe, the Regicide Judges, bringing his sons, William & Nathaniel (his first wife died in England). He married (2) Hannah Eaton, daughter of Gov. Theophilus Eaton, on July 7, 1659 in Westminster Abbey in London, England.

William was a magistrate of the New Haven Colony until 1664, elected Deputy Governor of the Colony of Conn, and served as Assistant to the Governor from 1665 to 1691. He was listed as a freeman in October, 1669. He served in other positions int he government and courts of the United Colonies.
