Merry Heard Hall son of Samuel Hall. Possibly b. abt. 1762.

Information rec'd 7/11/2013 from contributor 46979408 indicates he married (1). Elizabeth Cowan (2). Mary Ann House.

Merry Hall has to have been born no later than about 1757 in order to have obtained the Oath of Allegiance in Henry county, Virginia in 1777. Further by 1790, the census indicates his is the father of about seven children, leading one to conclude he married about 1776 or so. If one follows the censuses for Greenville county, SC from 1790 to 1830, there is nothing to indicate he had a second marriage. Further, his widow, Mary Hall is living in close proximity to eldest son Humphrey Hall in 1830, and her age is given as 60 to 70. Her estimated birth year is 1760. She has a young man living in her household in 1830, almost certainly her grandson Samuel Hall the son of Humphrey and Louranna Thompson Hall. Mary's maiden name is unknown at this time, although it seems likely that marriage occurred in Pittsylvania, Va. To date no marriage or estate records have been found to provide her maiden name.

All previous information on the internet as to a second wife, marriage date of 1808 and her maiden name of House is erroneous. Rec'd 8/21/2017 from contributor 48548945.

Merry Hall was listed with his father Samuel on the 1770 tithables list in Pittsylvania Co. He had to be at least 16 at that point. Additionally, he is in the county court minutes in Pittsylvania just a few years later. So, he was most likely born in the 1750s.

Also there is no valid record of him having a middle name-Heard comes from an erroneous book index. Very few people born in Colonial America had middle names. Rec'd 11/13/2021 from contributor 47155406.

Birthdate, middle name of Heard removed as UNVERIFIED, subject to change.
