Anna was the sixth of nine children born to Lewis & Fannie Coghill Duke. She grew up in the Rozetta area of Henderson County, Illinois and then moved with her parents to Monmouth. Around 1904 she married Rev. William T Richardson, and they moved first to New York where their son William Duke was born. They then moved to Los Angeles, California, where her husband died in 1917. Anna continued living there, helping her mother who had moved to California around 1910. Her mother died in 1924, and Anna next lived with her son. When she died her body was brought back to her childhood home and was buried in the Duke family plot at Rozetta.
