Benjamin was the fifth of nine children born to Lewis Duke Jr and Fannie Coghill. He married Anna Gertrude Green on December 27, 1894 in Henderson County, Illinois. They farmed in Henderson County until retiring to Monmouth. They had two daughters: Edith and Mildred. Edith married William Henry Rodgers, and was also buried in the Monmouth Cemetery following her death on May 2, 1943 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Fannie died in 1917, and Benjamin married Myrl White, the widow of Frank Brimhall who had died in 1914. Myrl and Frank had one child, Isabelle, who died in 1922. Myrl and Benjamin did not have any more children.
