He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward McSherry and was born in Mt. Pleasant Township.
Thirty-seven years ago he moved to McSherrystown and a few years later opened a restaurant and cafe, now known as the "National Hotel", which place he conducted for a quarter of a century. In early life he was a cigar maker.
Forty years ago he was married to Miss. Mary Dougherty, daughter of the late Patrick Dougherty and wife, of near McSherrystown. His wife died seven years ago.
For the past ten years he has lived retired.
Mr. McSherry is survived by his son, Charles McSherry, with whom he resided; two daughters, Mrs. William Stahl of York, and Mrs. Edward Foust (Faust), of Lebanon; two sisters, Mrs. Lewis Overbaugh of Mt. Rock, and Mrs. Thaddeus Collins of Two Taverns, and three brothers, Frank McSherry of Key-Mar, Md., Edward McSherry and Andrew McSherry, of Gettysburg.
Funeral was on Friday at 9 a.m., requim high mass in St. Mary's Church by Rev. L. Aug. Reudter, interment in Conewago Chapel Cemetery.
