The Library of Virginia's digital archive of family Bibles includes images of the birth, death and marriage records recorded in Catherine Stump's son George's Bible (1745-1848, Call #35598, Bible printed in 1802). Though the images do not show Catherine's dates of birth and death, they are accompanied by some undated, type-written notes which declare that George Stump descended from Hans Michael Stumpff (1709-1768) and his wife Maria Catherine (1722-1799 [sic]) of Hampshire County VA, and that Hans Michael and Maria Catharine Stumpff were married in Germany in 1740.

Catherine Stump's Will was dated December 4, 1783, and it was probated in Hardy County VA, now WV, in 1796. It reads:
In the name of God. Amen. I, Kathrine [sic] Stump, of Hampshire County and State of Virginia, blessed by God, do this fourth day of December one Thousand Seven hundred Eighty three make and publish this my Last Will and Testament in manner Following, That is to say all Living appearl or wooling with beding and every Ring of Living or wearing appearl that I have in my name to be equally Divided betwixt my three Daughters that is to say Catherin Brake, Elizabeth Welton & Magdalin Goakhim [Yokum]. Likewise, all the Household furniture and wooden Ware that is in my name, to be Divided as above unto the said girls, and if any Horses or Cattle be left at my Death, to be Divided equaly amongst my five Children, that is to say Michael and Leonard and three Girls, and if any Cash be left, to be equaly Divided amongst the above named five, that is to say, Michael, Leonard and the three Girls, but Each of my Daughters and their Children to have their share of the money without the husband having any right or Claiming of any that they only make use of it for their own nicesary [necessary] use, without their Husbands haveing any right or Demand upon the same, and Especialy that Jacob Brake have non [none], and this is my will Conscining [concerning] the money and Likewise that you make an Equal and Just Divid amongst yourselves, without any Dispute or wrangle and whoever buries me, let them make their Charge and let that be paid first. In Witness whereof I the said Chatheren [sic] Stump have to this my Last Will and Testament set my hand and seal the Day and year above written.
Cathern [sic] Stump
Signed, Sealed and Delivered by said Catharene [sic] Stump as her Last Will and Testament in the presence of us who were present at the Signing & Sealing of the same.
Witness: John Hays
Catheren (her X mark) Hays

Note that there is no proof that Maria Catherine's maiden name was Neff, as some report. FAG Memorial #69851555 reports that Michael Stump I married Catherine Anna Neff, who was born in Germany, died in 1783 and was buried at a different Stump Cemetery, north of this one at Bass WV, in Hardy County, with Michael. However, there is no proof that the Anna Catarina Neff, who married Michael Stump on 10 SEP 1739, in Tulpehocken, Lancaster County PA, was the same person as the Catherine Stump who married the Hans Michael Stump who died before 8 MAR 1768 in Hampshire, now Hardy County WV.

Moreover, Maria Catherine Stump's parents are unknown.
