Born in Spartanburg County on April 12, 1935, son of the late Esley Marion Hawkins and Ethel Alize (Turner) Hawkins; loving husband of Mae (Greenway) Hawkins.
Served two tours in the United States Army as a cryptograph operator and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Campobello.
He retired from the railroad where he worked as a cryptograph operator and also worked as a state inspector.
In addition, survived by sons, Gerald Zane Hawkins and James Douglas Patterson; daughter, Donna Fitch; sisters, Flora A. Culbreth, Barbara H. Peck and Annie Laura West; grandchildren, Jordan Hawkins, Olivia Hawkins, Abby Hawkins, Ethan Hawkins, Sydney Fitch, Jacob Fitch and Hunter Frederick along with many nieces and nephews and his best friend, Mike Goldsmith.
Also predeceased by one brother, David O. Hawkins and one son, Shannon Wesley Hawkins.
A Celebration of Life Service was held at First Baptist Church of Campobello at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 3, 2012, with Rev. Michael Bragg officiating.
