Sarah Hawkins was a daughter of Ralph Hawkins and Martha (Baldwin) Hawkins.
Based on her age on first marriage license, Sarah was born about 1604. Based on her age on the second marriage license, Sarah was born about 1602. After the death of her husband, John "Ye Younger" Catlett, Sarah left her home in Sittingbourne Parish, County of Kent and returned to the home of her father, Ralph Hawkins, in Canterbury, County of Kent, for the birth of her posthumous child--Col.John Catlett.
The wise Sarah (Hawkins) Catlett married Lodowick Rowzie/Rousey, Sr., MD, on 20-Sep-1626, Bethersden, County Kent, England.
Lodowick was a "Doctor of Physic" in County Kent, England.
Sarah and Lodowick had six children:
Ralph Rowzie/Rousey
Lodowick Rowzee, Jr.
Catheren Rowzee
Sarah Rowzie/Rowzee
Edward Rowzie, Sr.
Martha Rowzee
Sarah's death is a point of confusion, with many assuming she died in England. However, a comparison of English and Virginia records suggests she immigrated with her children and died in Virginia. Her oldest sons, John Catlett and Ralph Rowzie seem to have arrived ahead of the rest of the family about 1650. Headrights were claimed for the rest of the family on 7 June 1652, some jointly by John and Ralph, and others by a close family associate and future in-law, Thomas Lucas. Sarah Hawkins Catlett Rowzie had a daughter who was named for her, so the family had two Sarah Rowzies. John and Ralph claimed one of the Sarahs, and Thomas Lucas claimed the other. Since this happened on the same day, it's unlikely one person was claimed twice, but rather the Sarahs were mother and daughter. It appears Sarah Hawkins Catlett Rowzie died in Virginia by 1655, when John Catlett was in England seeking power-of-attorney for his half-brother, Ralph Rowzie, in order to settle the estate of Sarah and her second husband, Ludovic Rowzie. Why the estate wasn't taken care of prior to immigration isn't known.
