Freda was born March 13, 1921 in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, the daughter of Morgan and Olava (Swenson) Clauson. She was baptized and confirmed at Grove Lake Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids. Freda attended District #183 in Scambler Township near Pelican Rapids and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School. She worked in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, at the Singer Sewing Machine store.
In March 1955, Freda was united in marriage to Mervin Kaltvedt in Fergus Falls. She then worked at Wielanders Jewelry store in Fergus Falls for many years until retirement. Freda and Mervin resided at Jewett Lake near Fergus Falls until Mervin died November 14, 1981. She moved to Pelican Rapids in 1996 and entered Pelican Valley Nursing Home October, 2011.
Freda was a member of Tonseth Lutheran Church, Erhard, MN, the Eagles Auxilary and Ladies Auxilary Post #612 Marching Honor Guard in Fergus Falls.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, living at the lake, entertaining friends and family, and working in retail sales.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Morgan and Olava Clauson; husband: Mervin Kaltvedt; stepson: Mervin Kaltvedt, Jr.; sisters: Clarice Anderson, Ellen Hushagen, Verna Clause and Louise Baxter; brothers Morris, Oren, Walter, Charles and Raymond.
