Leslie "Ike" Clyde Alger, 97, of Charles Town, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at his residence, under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle. He was the son of the late Hubert A. and Lora Burner Alger.
He retired from Martin Marietta after 40 years. He was a member of Zion Episcopal Church, Charles Town.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 948, Charles Town; member of Malta Masonic Lodge No. 80 A.F.&A.M., Charles Town; member of Henry Kyd Douglas Camp Sons of Confederate Veterans.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Cathryn Garber Alger, who died in 1962; second wife, Loleta V. Roper Alger, who died Aug. 2, 2010; and stepdaughter, Doris Painter.
He is survived by nieces and nephews on both sides.
He is the last of his immediate family, being preceded in death by five sisters, Mabel Peck Kehl, Arlee Jensen, Eva Nell Batty Drewry, Rosalie Fowler and Alice Darrock; and eight brothers, Merle Alger, Clifton Alger, Everett Alger, Shirley Alger, Fred Alger, Francis Alger, Wilbur "Bill" Alger and Jessie Alger.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, with the Rev. Melanie McCarley officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Va.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home.
