Mariette was the daughter of Abraham Slocum and Lavinia Deyo.
Abraham was born January 17, 1806 in Woodstock Twp., Ulster Co. N.Y, the son of Abraham and Mary (Murphy) Slocum. Lavinia Deyo was born August 21, 1810 in Stillwater Twp., Saratoga Co. N.Y.
Abraham and Lavinia married July 3, 1827 in Waterloo, Seneca Co. N.Y.

Abraham and Lavinia had three children, Mariette born 1829, Edward born 1831 and Lavinia born 1833. Five days after the birth of their last child, Lavinia died. Abraham married his second wife, Elizabeth Bordine, six months later. She was born in 1817.

Abraham then moved the family to Mackinac Michigan in the early 1840's. Abraham and Elizabeth went on to have nine more children.
On March 17 of 1854, Abraham and his 16 year old son William left in a fishing boat and were lost at sea in a howling storm. They were not found until April 8th when there boat was discovered about 8 miles off shore and their frozen bodies were found on board.

Mrs. John Williams 92 years of age, died in the home of her granddaughter Mrs. R.A. McDonald in Trout Lake, Michigan, Tuesday afternoon. She is survived by seven sons,
76 grandchildren and more than 90 great grandchildren.
Mrs Williams was born in Buffalo New York in 1829, when a small girl she moved to Gros Cap, near St. Ignace, Michigan with her parents. She was married there when she was 17 years old. Shortly after being married she removed to Chambers Island where she resided for 30 years. She was also a resident of Mackinac Island when the island
was taken from the Indians and she remembered the time when the mail in Menominee county was carried on horseback. She had been a resident of Menominee county living near Ingallston for the last 45 years. The deceased had been in excellent health until last Saturday when she was seized with an attack of bronchitis. Owing to her age she was unable to survive and passed away on Tuesday.
7 sons survive out of the family of 13. They are Eli, Schuyler, Edward, Homer, Leonard, John and Hiram. Besides the immediate family there are numerous grandchildren and
great grandchildren. All seven sons reside in Menominee county.
The body was brought to the city last night and taken to the home of granddaughter Mrs. Fred Meissner on Broadway. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock
from the First Methodist church, the Rev. R.D. Hopkins will officiate. Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery.

Pioneer of County Buried at Riverside Cemetery after Church Services.
The funeral of Mrs. John Williams, one of the pioneer residents of the county was held yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist church. The Rev. R.D. Hopkins
officiated. During the service, Dr. H.A.Venenema sang One Sweetly Solemn Thought and Jesus Pilot Me. Dr. D.M. Wilcox played the accompaniment. The casket was borne
by Joseph Sholtz, Peter L'Hote, Richard Belle, Fred Meissner Sr., William Flynn and Albert Mattie. Burial took place at Riverside Cemetery. Among the relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were Mrs. Mary Kane of Canada, Mrs. Emma McDonald of Trout Lake, Miss Ruth Dulcon, of Green Bay and Homer Williams of Sturgeon Bay.
Mariette's obituary also ran in the St. Ignace Enterprise on March 4, 1915. It is the same as above except for the first paragraph:
The death of Mrs. John Williams recently brought universal sorrow to this community
where she was so well known. The deceased was loved by all who knew her, and the
family have the sympathy of the town in their sorrow. She was the grandmother of John
and William Anguilm. The Menominee Herald Leader says of her death....

John and Mariette also had five daughters. Esther, Lavinia, Adelaide, Marietta "Ettie", and Delia. They all preceded her in death.

John and Mariette were married March 19, 1845 at gross Cap by Isaac Blanchard.
