JONESVILLE, Va. — Alanzo Patton "Pat" LaForce, 67, died Sunday (Jan. 1, 2012), at Holston Valley Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a resident of Lee County, Va., most of his life. For many years he operated a custodial and handyman service in the area but his true love was farming including raising tobacco and cattle. Most recently he was known for selling his farm-raised produce throughout the Jonesville area. He also loved to golf and was a proud member of the Preston Masonic Lodge No. 47. He was also a member of the Friendship Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Mary Eppie LaForce; brothers, Johnny LaForce, Boyd Bowen, Earl LaForce, Tavis LaForce; sister, Barbara LaForce Murray, and two infant siblings.

Surviving are daughters, Patty Sumpter and husband, Allan, of Jonesville, Michelle Gray and husband, David, of Elizabethon , and Kim Slover and husband, Dan, of Madison, Ohio; grandchildren, a very special grandson, Patrick Sumpter and his fiancée, Christus, Kaitlyn Sumpter, Sarah Sumpter, Micah Gray, and Garren Gray; greatgrandchildren, Emma Sumpter and DeLaney Glass; brothers and sisters, Mrs. Jean Scott, Mr. Dan LaForce, Ms. Sue Baker, Mrs. Ruth Zimmerman and husband, Mel, Mr. Jack LaForce and wife, Judy, Mr. Larry LaForce and wife, Judy, Mr. Paul LaForce, and Mr. Kip LaForce and wife, Sue; several nephews and nieces that he loved as much as his own children. Also surviving is his fiancée, Ms. Sandra Wade of Jonesville and her daughter, Amy Goodman and husband, Rick, and their children Breanna and Kaylee who referred to him as "Pepa w. " The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Friendship Baptist Church, Jonesville.

Services will be held at the church on Thursday at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Fred Cagle and the Rev. Dempsie Mullins officiating.

Burial will be in the family cemetery on Flatwoods

Road on Friday at 11 a.m. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society, or the Friendship Baptist Church.
