E. Jean was born on September 25, 1921 in Webster City to T. Elick and Ellen J. (Shafer) Hudson. She was educated in the Webster City School System, attended Mulberry Center United Methodist Church and was employed with North Western Bell Telephone Company. In 1944, E. Jean married Kenneth Batcheller, now deceased. While living in Ft. Dodge, she operated the Mode O'Day Dress Shop. On May 18, 1961, Jean was united in marriage to Maurice W. Johnson in Deadwood, SD. They farmed near Milford, until their retirement in 1979 when they moved to Florida for ten years. In 1989, they returned to Spencer, Iowa. Jean enjoyed knitting and bookkeeping.
E. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Maurice, two brothers Donald and Duane Hudson, and a sister Virginia Staples. She is survived by three step-children, Kay Reiche, Judith Witter, and Orville Johnson; several step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; a sister, Darlene (Romaine) Ranger of Nevada and several nieces and nephews.
