The daughter of Thomas and Cynthia McCutcheon, Janice was born on October 23, 1921 in Harrison, Arkansas. She taught school for several years before meeting and marrying Joseph Layne. He passed away about 10 years ago. For many years, she was cafeteria supervisor for the Kern County School District. She was considered an angel by her many friends. She was kind, thoughtful and had a willingness to help anyone in need. She was interested in many things and particularly loved to talk politics. She enjoyed evenings out with her many friends, dancing and listening to the music of Red Simpson. She was a past president of the Rasmussen Senior Center in Bakersfield. She was most of all, a dedicated mother and grandmother, and will leave a void in many lives that cannot be replaced.
Janice is survived by her son, Joe Layne of Bear Valley Springs; granddaughter, Janelle Layne of Bear Valley Springs; grandson, Tony Moran of Los Angeles; step-daughters, Sharon Moran and Dolores; grandchildren, Tony, Kellie, John, Mike, and Erin Moran (of Happy Days), Sharon Lee Fournier; and special friends, Dave and Diane Eschenbaum, Kathy Oxford, LaVonne Eschenbaum, and Richard and Gloria Baker.
