Mrs. Verdia F. Matherley, 76, daughter of the late Mr. Peter D. Elmore and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Close Elmore, was born July 16, 1902 in Green County and departed this life at 4 a.m., Wednesday, January 10, in the McDowell Wing of the Jane Todd Crawford Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.
She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Taylor's Chapel Methodist Church.
She united in marriage to Mr. Harry Matherley November 22, 1931 and he preceded her in death January 3, 1972.
Mrs. Matherley is survived by one brother: J. F. Elmore of Summersville; one half-sister: Mrs. Maude Warren of Elizabethtown; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 11 in the Taylor's Chapel Methodist Church by Rev. Milton Judd and Rev. Stephen Parker. Burial was in the Taylor's Chapel Cemetery. Cowherd and Parrott Fuenral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
Pallbearers were Timmy England, Dannie Nelson, David Warren, Elmer Warren, Lewis Dobson and Gary Elmore.
