the sad news reached this city Monday morning that Hiram Scott had passed away at the Bethel hospital in Newton Sunday evening at 9:30. The funeral services were held at the Christian Church in this city Wednesday afternoon. Burial in the City Cemetry.
Mr Scott was born in Rawleigh County, West Virginia, December 26, 1847. When 25 years of age he moved to Kansas and home steaded on the farm 3 miles north of the city. He passed thru all the hardships the early pioneer's had to suffer. He lived on his farm north of the city until a month before his death when he was taken to the hospital. Mr Scott suffered much while there but stood it without complaining. He assisted in establishing the Christian Church of this city. Mr Scott also had many friends in and around the community. His wife preceded him in death 6 years ago. Two years ago Mr Scott began ailing and gradually became worse. A month ago he was taken to Bethel where he died Sunday evening. His death was caused by the hardening of the arteries. Three brothers, one sister, two sons, Carl who lives 3 miles north of the city, and Clyde, who lives in Kansas City, survive their father.

A gangrenous condition which developed in his left foot hastened the death of Hiram Scott of Moundridge, who succumbed at Bethel hospital last evening at 9:30 o'clock. He had been in failing health for some time and was brought to the hospital three weeks ago. The complication that caused his death, however, developed unexpectedly.
Mr Scott was born in Virginia and came west to Kansas 55 years ago, homesteading a farm near Moundridge. He was a member of the Christian church and is survived by two boys, Carl, of Moundridge, and Clyde of Kansas City. One brother, Nathan of Washington state, and a sister residing somewhere in Kansas also survive. His wife preceded him to the grave several years ago...
