Mae Gene Safford Caplan

Services for Gene Safford Caplan will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, February 27, 2012, in Congregation Gemiluth Chassodim, 2021 Turner St., Alexandria, LA, with Spiritual Leader Jonathan Cohen officiating, assisted by Rabbi Arnold Task and Judith Caplan Ginsburgh. Interment will be in the Jewish Cemetery, Main St., Pineville, under the direction of John Kramer & Son.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. Monday until the time of the service at Congregation Gemiluth Chassodim.

Gene Safford Caplan, 71, of Alexandria, died February 25, 2012, in Grace House.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin L. Caplan; one sister, Lee Ann Perry; mother and step-father, Mabel Lee Pergoda and Jack Childree and one brother, Marion Childree.

She was a native of Huntsville, Texas and a longtime resident of Alexandria. Gene married Marvin Louis Caplan on June 16, 1962. (Her parents were Mabel Lee Pegoda and Rupert Eugene Safford.)

Prior to raising her children she was employed by Delta Airlines at the Bentley Hotel desk. She was interested in the arts and enjoyed painting, sculpting and traveling. In recent years her children and grandchildren have been the light of her life.

She is survived by one son, Michael Caplan of Little Rock; one daughter, Cindy Caplan Hilger and her husband, Mickey of Lena; two grandchildren, Kayla and Taylor Hilger; two brothers, Rupert E. Safford, II, and his wife, Lynn and Jackie Ray Childree; four sisters, Jo Safford Lapeyrouse and her husband, Red; Janey Safford Chelette and her husband, Jerry; Nancy Childree Tidwell and her husband, Chris and Sarah Safford McNeil.

Memorials may be sent to the Jewish Temple, 2021 Turner St., Alexandria, LA 71301 or a charity of your choice .

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff and fellow residents of Lexington House and to family and friends for their thoughts, care and concern.

Pallbearers will be Mickey Hilger, Taylor Hilger, Edwin J. Caplan, David C. Caplan, Rick Poche, Brent Caplan, Robert Ginsburgh and Aaron B. Ginsburgh. Honorary Pallbearers will be Red Lapeyrouse, Chris Tidwell, Jerry Chelette, Mark Fisk, Andrew Fisk, Hunter Tidwell, Jerry Feld, Richard LaMarche and Timothy Ware, Jr.
