Ellen was born in Meade Huron Michigan the daughter of Frederick Oliver Goulait and Christean Hartman Goulait/Pardee. on her birth record she was named Mary Ellen [which is a French Catholic thing- he named 3 daughters Mary, they used the middle name] Ellen first married 21 Nov 1892 AuGres Arenac Michigan Phineas Robert Pardee,Born: 14 Jan 1865 Port Austin, Huron Michigan, Died; 26 May 1908 East Tawas Michigan the younger brother of her stepfather George Washington Pardee. He was the father of 4 of her children. She 2nd married 31 Aug 1910 East Tawas Iosco Michigan, another commercial fisherman- George Tovatt. She 3rd married, 28 Nov 1919 Bay City Michigan her half brother's step son, Howard Arthur DeFoe. Her grandson informed me that Betty DeFoe/Wilson was their adopted daughter. In addition another great grand daughter said that she and Howard DeFoe reared Ellen's son's-Roland Ronald Pardee's children after the childbirth death of the mother Alma Pease Pardee . She lost a son in the First World War. Herman Otto Pardee's name is on the Memorial in front of the Bay City Court House
