Babler, Anna B.
NEW GLARUS - Mrs. Anna B. Babler, age 89, a resident of the New Glarus Home, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 1991, at St. Clare Hospital in Monroe. The former Anna B. Bohren was born on December 29, 1901, in Mt. Pleasant Township, Green County, the daughter of John and Anna (Klassy) Bohren.
She married Fred Duerst in 1921. On October 19, 1954, she married Lloyd Babler. The couple lived in New Glarus and were widely known for their beautiful Swiss scroll woodcraft which they spent many happy hours making a great number of artistic treasures.
Anna was employed by Pet Milk Company, New Glarus, for many years. She was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ, New Glarus, Postville Ladles Aid, and the New Glarus Ladles Aid, the G.U.G.G., and the Alpine Club.
Survivors include two sons, LaVerne (Pauline) Duerst of Deforest, Wisconsin, Harley (Rita) Duerst of Frost Proof, Florida; two daughters, Hazel (Mrs. Melvln) Updike of Janesville, Wisconsin, Violet (Mrs. Arnie) Bergum of Madison, Wisconsin; a sister, Mrs. Alma Blum of New Glarus; 14 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Lloyd; a daughter, Lorraine Swenson;.two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Her family was her pride and joy. She was a model of strength and courage regardless of adversity and pain. She will be greatly missed by her family whom she loved and cared for.
Funeral services were held at the SWISS UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, New Glarus, the Reverend Tom Nellsen officiating; with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery. ZENTER-BEAL FUNERAL HOME of New Glarus assisted the family.
