Roat Spencer Tunnell, 80, died Tuesday at his home.

He is survived in Greeneville by two brothers, Kyle Tunnell and Glen Tunnell.

Mr. Tunnell had lived in Gray for 54 years. He was a son of the late Luther and Pearl Ball Tunnell.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Gray Ruritan Club.

Mr. Tunnell retired after 38 years of service with Tennessee Eastman Co., now Eastman Chemical Co., in Kingsport.

He was a charter member of Greenvale Baptist Church, where he had served as church treasurer, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and deacon for more than 20 years.

At the time of his death, Mr. Tunnell was a member of First Baptist Church of Fall Branch, where he was a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and deacon.

Survivors, in addition to two brothers, include his wife: Ruby Mitchell Tunnell; three daughters: Mrs. Lenny (Rozann) Hawkins, Patsy Tunnell, and Sandra Strouth, all of Gray; a son and daughter-in-law: Stanley and Sue Tunnell of Piedmont, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister: Texie Davis of Rogersville.

He was preceded in death by two sisters: Jessie Roberts and Lelia Milligan; four brothers: Charlie Tunnell, ReeceTunnell, and two infants.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 this evening at First Baptist Church of Fall Branch.

The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Friday morning at the church with interment in Washington County Memory Gardens. The Rev. Victor Wallace and the Rev. James C. Henry will officiate.

The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service
