He was a member of Oak Dale Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as church clerk for a number of years.
Mr. Tunnell retired from Magnavox after 34 years, and was a lifetime farmer.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years: Hazel Shelton Tunnell; one son and daughter-in-law: Dwight and Dinah Tunnell of West Pines; one daughter and son-in-law: Diane and Larry Moore of West Pines; a grandson: Joshua Moore of West Pines; a great-grandson: Trevor Moore; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Ruby Tunnell of Gray, Dora Tunnell of Fall Branch, Marie Tunnell of Greeneville, Wanda Denny of the Clear Springs community, Delores and Bobby Crum of Chuckey, Don and Frances Shelton and Winfred and Frances Shelton, all of the Rheatown community, and Joe Shelton of Greeneville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a son of the late Luther and Pearl Ball Tunnell and was preceded in death by four brothers: Roat Tunnell, Reece Tunnell, Glenn Tunnell, and Charlie Tunnell; and three sisters: Texie Davis, Lelia Milligan, and Jessie Roberts.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Oak Dale Missionary Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Frank Proffitt and the Rev. Donnie Shelton will officiate.
The body will taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Ray Milligan, Billy Blazer, Claude Tunnell, Rick Tunnell, Junior Harrell, Jon Tunnell, Keith Tunnell, and Danny Tunnell.
