JACOB ANDRIST was born in Weissenbach, Parish Boltigen, Canton Bern, Switzerland to David Andrist Jr. and Anna Matti-Andrist on June 10, 1836. He was baptized and confirmed in the Swiss Reformed church.

In 1854 he emigrated to his country settling first in Wisconsin and settled on a farm in Pleasant Valley, near Roscoe, Goodhue County, Minnesota where he was one of the earliest settlers.

In 1886 he married Elizabeth Spreiter who has stood side by side with him in all the toil of homemaking. Of this union five children were born, Jessie, who died in 1899, Clara who died in 1871, Charles, Walter and Loren. In 1900 the couple moved to West Concord.

For several years Mr. Andrist has been in poor health, suffering from an injury received some years ago. At time this suffering has been of the most intense charter, but during it all he has shown remarkable fortitude and even in the midst of pain was ever mindful of the dear ones who sought to help him. This patience was one of the most marked characteristics of Mr. Andrist. Some few days before his death he was stricken with paralysis which hastened the end.

He has ever been a good moral man and an upright citizen, striving to do unto others as he would be done by. This uprightness of character made him many friends and thru this and adjoining counties he had the friendship and respect of a very large circle.

Jacob died on November 15, 1905, he is buried in the Concord Cemetery, Dodge County, Minnesota.
