Faye Parker, my Gramdmom Faye, to me was the "Norman Rockwell" of Grandmothers. Perfect in every way. Actual Birth name was DORTHY FAYE, but as I have found on so many Census reports...they documented by what people "went by" rather then First Name.
She raised 3 children,(when they were young) with the help of her Mother Mary Parker.
Husband James Durkin was murdered in 1930 in Illinois and at the time, according to Family members, though devastated, she was strong during this time..and went to Court everyday when the young man who shot her husband was on trial. She helped put him in jail, and many, many years later, upon receipt of a letter from him, she kept him in jail. Grandmom Faye never remarried, and wore her wedding ring the rest of her life.
Grandmom Faye was a very wise woman,when my Dad was born all the Parker men in the family asked that she name her newborn son after them, she did just that, without showing favoritism to one or the other, HENCE, the name PARKER LEE was given :) Lee is a tradition in the Parker family, MANY, MANY have that middle name, and I carried it on with my first son Sean Michael Lee yes, 2 middle names :)
I cannot say enough about my Grandmom Faye. "Mom Faye" to everyone. She was so loving, yet a strong and determined woman. She lead Girl Scouts, and was involved with "boy" activities as well. I couldn't wait to visit her. She was very intelligent, and funny, and always looked at the glass as half full. She taught me many things. How can you write your feelings about someone you love so much? There is not enough space for me to completely tell her story.
I was her only Grand-daughter, seems boys dominated the birth order in the family. :)
