Gilbert F. Milks

Gilbert F. (Gib) Milks, 73, of 802 N. Cherry, Mt. Pleasant, died at 9 a.m., Mon., Oct. 3, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

A lifetime resident of Mt. Pleasant, he was born Jan. 20, 1915, to Walter B. and Elta B. (Foster) Milks. May 6, 1939, at Mt. Pleasant, he married Cecil L. Sammons, who survives.

He worked at the IAAP, Burlington, for eight years; drove the mill truck for Taylor Feeds for 10 years; worked at the Mt. Pleasant light plant for several years; and worked for Valley Gas in Rock Island on the pipeline. He served in the U.S. Army and worked on the Civilian Conservation Corps during World War II. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant; a past commander of the American Legion Post 58; a member of the Moose Lodge; and did volunteer work at the Mental Health Institute.

He is survived by his wife, of Mt. Pleasant; four sons, Karry and Roger, both of Mt. Pleasant, Ronnie of Panora, Kent of Davenport; two daughters, Mrs. Delbert (Darlene) Moeller of Burlington and Mrs. Mark (Linda) Knoop, of Davenport; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Clifford of Salem and James of Winfield; two sisters, Mrs. Glenn (Opal) Cantrell of Licking, Mo., and Mrs. Denzel (Mildred) Woodsmall of What Cheer.

His parents and two brothers, Dale and Kenneth, preceded him in death.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thurs., Oct. 6, from the Calvary Baptist Church, Mt. Pleasant, will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Friends may call as desired beginning at noon on Wednesday at Weir Funeral Home where a memorial has been established to the Calvary Baptist Church.Married: Cecil Sammons
