Mrs. Elizabeth Devoe, daughter of James Hamilton Bailey, of the town of Monroe, died at the residence of her father the 26th of February 1879, due to consumption; aged 36 years, 8 months, 10 days, leaving a son 17 years of age and a large circle of friends.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.E. Irish, of Monroe, at the Hawthorne Church; the remains were deposited in the cemetery adjoining. She was possessed of a quiet, but earnest and truthful spirit and had endeared herself to her acquaintances by her many virtues. Her way to the tomb was made with the love of Jesus, to whom she had formerly given her heart, and whose name she had more recently been baptized.
Friend after friend departs; but one hath not lost a friend.
