Born March 30, 1938 in Orange, he was the son of the late Bonnie L. and Evelyn Townsend Byars. His sister, Ester Mae West, also preceded him in death.
Howard served with the United States Navy and had been an automobile mechanic for most of his life.
He is survived by his wife, E. Louise Byars; two sons, Timothy Byars of Virginia Beach and Corey Byars of Charlottesville; and two granddaughters, Candace Byars of Charlottesville and Tiffany Byars of Louisa.
